Photo of Map Rock located near Melba, ID taken by Brad. Map Rock is one of the most famous petroglyphs in the Snake River Valley. Believed to have been created by the Northern Shoshone or other Indigenous peoples thousands of years ago, the carvings feature intricate designs, including what some interpret as a map of the surrounding area, celestial patterns, and symbolic representations of life and the natural world. This sacred site reflects a deep connection between its creators and the land. Today, Map Rock serves as a historical and cultural landmark, reminding us of the enduring relationship between humans and the landscapes that shape their lives.
